 "About Us"

George served his community as a career Paramedic for 32 years, retiring as a Master Paramedic in 2006. George began his career in 1974 in Chatham County Georgia (Savannah), working with the now defunct Chatham County EMS and then proudly served the citizens of Dekalb County Georgia (outside Atlanta) for 21 years, working in the poorest, most violent communities in Georgia.

Driving under extreme conditions is an intergal part of any Paramedic's life. Learning to control an 8,800lb. ambulance on bias ply tires during the 1970's gave George a keen appreciation for car control skills. "Theres nothing like trying to stop an ambulance from speed on bias ply's in the rain with peoples lives on the line. When the tire starts to slide, it gives new meaning to the word pressure". During his career, George had the privilege of attending many driving courses including Advanced EVOC, Felony Pursuit Tactics as well as SCCA and HSR schools.

George began his racing career in a 1973 Mercury Capri, racing in SCCA Solo 1 & 2 events later racing a TR-6 at Roebling Road. He also served the Buccaneer Region SCCA in timing and scoring during the late 1970's. He has driven on many tracks including Road Atlanta, VIR, Roebling Road, Barber Motorsports Park, Atlanta Motor Speedway (road course) and others.

Since his retirement George worked with Bob Wagner for 5 years restoring, maintaining and servicing closed wheel racing cars such as AC Cobra, Jaguar (XKE, XJS, XJR5-7 and Lister), MGB, Morgan, Ginetta, Merlyn, Royale, Mustang, Lotus 23 & Elan and Caterham Super 7. George currently restores Firebirds and Trans Am's, and rebuilds Rochester Quadrajet Carburetors in his shop in south Georgia.

Sherry has been in the customer service industry all her life, working in varied industries such as yachting, electronics, Customs and now liquor distributing.
Sherry was raised around racing as well. Her father raced hydroplanes in the 1,000 Lakes area in upstate New York. As a small girl she would help fill the gas tanks on her fathers boats. As she became a little older she worked as his lakeside support, did timing and scoring and helped with the outboard motors.

Sherry now does our trackside support, including timing and scoring, checks tire pressures, prepares lunches, organizes just about everything and makes sure George & Jeff keep going in the right direction!

George and Sherry started this madness with two if their friends in 1990, taking a lightly prepared 1978 Bandit Edition Trans Am to Road Atlanta to compete in HSR's Walter Mitty Challenge. When they won their class, George was convinced they could go racing! D'oh! The following year George asked Sherry to marry him in that very same car on the backstraight of Road Atlanta! So far it's been the only time she has been speechless since they've met !!

The Tanque was conceived in the off season in 1991. George convinced Sherry they could build the car themselves ("it'll only take 6 months baby"). Built during 1992 the Tanque was first raced in 1993 (see the "Yanque Tanque Story" elsewhere in these pages) and continuously campaigned until 2007. Now the team runs a limited schedule.
